Material District 2026
From 4–6 March, the Fibershed NL value network will highlight the connection between regeneration and innovation at the Material District in Utrecht to accelerate the transition to a circular, biobased, and local textile system. More than fifty years ago, the Club of Rome warned in The Limits to Growth (1972) about the depletion of resources. What once seemed like a distant scenario has now become reality. The urgency to develop circular and biobased materials is greater than ever.
Under the motto Through connections we thrive, Fibershed believes that the transition to a circular and biobased textile system starts with greater diversity and availability of regenerative materials—from agricultural crops to (textile) waste streams—local production, and a healthy balance between nature and human intervention. By connecting farmers, processors, producers, designers, makers, and users, we accelerate this movement.
About Fibershed NL
Where circularity often focuses on reuse, the biobased regenerative perspective highlights the power of renewable raw materials. Within the Fibershed value network, entrepreneurs work with natural materials and design based on circularity. In the ‘Land to wardrobe and other Textile Circle’ they collaborate to make high quality textile products that follow the steps of the circular R-ladder and ultimately return to nature through composting.
Join Fibershed for a collective presentation to showcase your biobased, regenerative material at Material District.
